The Livelihood Programme works to ensure sustainable employment for people with disabilities, particularly those who have dropped out of formal education and are ineligible for existing government or non-government programmes.
72,700 individuals have been supported through APD’s livelihood programmes so far, with many more to go.
We prioritise community mobilisation, training and job placements for people with disabilities through our Livelihood Programme.
Our approach combines mobilisation, foundational learning, skills development and employer engagement to create pathways to employment.
We support working-age people with disabilities, particularly those who face barriers to formal education, vocational training and employment.
We identify people with disabilities across rural and urban communities through public records, community programmes, career guidance workshops and partnerships with educational institutions, government agencies and development organisations.
We provide job-readiness training in essential life skills, self-management, communication, English, basic mathematics and other foundational skills to prepare individuals for further training and employment.
We connect people with disabilities to academic and vocational training at APD and other mainstream institutions, with training tailored to their abilities and employment opportunities.
We offer six-month non-formal courses in fitting, electronics and mechanics for candidates who do not meet the eligibility criteria for formal training programmes.
Our Career Guidance and Placement Cell works across all Livelihood training units, engaging with over 120 prospective employers across South India. Through pre-employment training, job fairs, employer orientation, industrial visits and field engagement, we help connect trained candidates with suitable employment opportunities.
The Career Guidance and Placement Cell works across Livelihood training units to connect trained candidates with employers and suitable job opportunities.
Pre-employment training, job fairs, employer orientation, industrial visits and field engagement help prepare candidates while also building understanding among prospective employers.
We create potential horticultural career prospects for persons with disabilities in nurseries, landscaping, floriculture, tissue culture and more.
“Even after losing my right hand in an accident, the most life-changing experience for me was receiving training from APD in communication and computer skills so that I could build a career for myself.”Seeta S Gonda
